New York Times Examines Factors Affecting VBAC Rates As NIH Conference Begins
The New York Times on Tuesday examined efforts to increase rates of vaginal births after caesarean sections at the Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation, a small hospital run by the Navajo Nation and financed partially by the Indian Health Services. According to the Times, the hospital "prides itself" on having higher VBAC rates and lower overall c-section rates than wealthier, more renowned hospitals. This week, NIH is hosting a conference to evaluate factors affecting the nation's low VBAC rate, which dropped significantly since a peak of 28.3% of births in 1996... A rare case of postpartum hemorrhage caused by the rupture of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm three months after cesarean delivery.
Authors: Hayata E, Matsuda H, Furuya K Postpartum hemorrhage usually occurs immediately or several hours or days after delivery and almost always within 6 weeks. Rupture of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm subsequent to a cesarean section is a rare cause of postpartum hemorrhage, and delayed postpartum hemorrhage from a pseudoaneurysm may be misdiagnosed as hypermenorrhea. Here we present an extremely rare case of massive postpartum hemorrhage three months after a cesarean section that was successfully treated using selective uterine artery embolization (UAE).A 24-year-old woman, gravida 1, para 1, delivered a healthy baby via emergency cesarean section at a local clinic, and three months later was transported by ambulance to our hospital because of persistent vaginal hemorrhage with a ...... Let's Talk About The Incision Used For Tubal Reversal Surgery
Women on the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center want to know how long the incision is that is used to untie the fallopian tubes. First, the length of the incision varies for each individual but is usually between two and three inches. You can see pictures of an actual incision in relation to the size of a quarter on the website. Generally if you have had a c-section the same incision line will be used if possible. The good news is that regardless of the length of the incision it will be almost invisible in six months time due to the expert skills of Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith, the best tubal reversal doctors. Gestational diabetes: Blood sugar levels once considered normal are not safe for baby, mother
Two to three times more pregnant women may soon be diagnosed and treated for gestational diabetes, based on new measurements for determining risky blood sugar levels for the mother and her unborn baby, according to a new study. Blood sugar levels that were once considered in the normal range are now seen as causing a sharp increase in the occurrence of overweight babies, early deliveries, cesarean section deliveries and potentially life-threatening preeclampsia. Prenatal diagnosis of an intertwin membrane hematoma
We report a case of a 26-year-old woman, gravida 2, para 1, with a dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy at 33 weeks of gestation with a 1-day history of mild vaginal bleeding and irregular uterine activity. Ultrasonography showed 18 × 15 × 3-cm-sized complex hypoechoic mass located in the dividing intertwin membrane. Based on this finding, the diagnosis of an intertwin membrane hematoma was made. This unusual sonographic diagnosis was confirmed during the cesarean section. In the case of dichorionic twin pregnancy, partial placental abruption can lead to a subclinical intertwin membrane hematoma. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. [How did I contract human Papillomavirus (HPV)?]
Authors: Gavillon N, Vervaet H, Derniaux E, Terrosi P, Graesslin O, Quereux C More than 120 genotypes have been identified among the Papillomavirus (HPV) family. These viruses are ubiquitary with skin or mucous membrane tropism and cause various pathologies from wart to neoplasia. HPV family is classified according to their tropism. Genital HPV infection is considered as the most frequent sexually transmitted disease in the world. Seventy-five percent of women will be in contact with HPV at least one time in their life. HPV is usually transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact, more often during penetrative genital contact. Other types of genital contact in the absence of penetration can lead to HPV infection, but those routes of transmission are much less common than sexual inter...... MORE...
